Singleton-English Law Offices
Who is this Wise Woman?
Tammy is a mom, wife, CPA and attorney who has been practicing law in the South Hills since 1992. She is very involved in her Upper St Clair Community.
What is her business?
Tammy owns Singleton-English Law Offices and specializes in estate planning, probate, and tax planning.
What makes it special?
It is a small and intimate option where your lawyer is always the senior partner. She and her staff take time to know you and your needs.
She is worthy of the “Gotta Good” Guide because….?
She is really, really good at listening, and problem solving, and going above and beyond the technical legal work you hire her to do.
In her own words...
“I try to help people. Really listening to clients is as important and as helpful as filing papers.”
Singleton-English comes up with pretty creative solutions. In one case combining estate planning and elder care, Tammy set up a framework to ensure a local senior was not taken advantage of by an overly ‘friendly’ caregiver. The man’s daughters, who live in a different state, contacted Tammy with vague concerns about the caregiver, though they had no actual proof of wrong doing. Tammy put in place safeguards that protected the man’s financial assets and well-being without upsetting the delicate caregiver relationship.
Many of Tammy’s clients come to her to create wills and for help with the never-easy task of providing for children in case of the unthinkable. “Half the time I feel like a counselor,” says Singleton-English, particularly regarding guardianship choice for clients with young children. “It’s a huge issue for many people.”
One family was so agonized that husband and wife never traveled together, even to family vacation destinations. Tammy was able to help them analyze the issue and develop a plan that satisfied both parents’ concerns; and gave them confidence their children will be well cared for if the worst does happen. Now the family travels as a family.
As a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) as well as an attorney, you would expect Tammy to have a seen a shoebox or two on the tax side of her practice. In fact she has had an actual laundry basket show up, in the arms of a client whose tragic circumstances had plunged her unexpectedly into full responsibility for household finances. In keeping with Tammy’s credo of going the extra mile, she prepared the client’s taxes AND taught her how to write a check and balance a check book.
